Fold out spout VS screw cap

I know I keep harping about how much fucking plastic is LITERALLY trashing the ocean. But I can control my plastic usage. I can. (psst... so can you) INSERT TODAY'S RANT.

Bi-pourlar spout
What in the hell is going on here? When did we get TWO spouts on the milk carton? WHY do we need another spout? I clearly remember being at Central Elementary School and buying chocolate milk in cardboard containers for .17 (white milk was .15)  Granted it was often a minor victory to get the origami lid open with my wee tiny fingers. But I handled it! I am not denying that the screw cap is EASIER, but maybe that "struggle" is what made me the super human goddess that I am today. I COULD OPEN A MILK CARTON! IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. Here is the reason I feel so angry about this. Stupid birds + stupid caps = frustration  The bird brained albatross, sea gulls and pelicans EAT THE DAMN CAPS. They feel full (of plastic they can't digest) so they don't eat and they DIE. Then bigger predators/scavengers eat their plastic stuffed skins and subsequently become starved and weakened.  This is our fault. Keep track of your bottle caps.

My attempts at less plastic usage

Welcome to my soap box. I popped into Fresh Thyme today, in prep for the upcoming OMG BLIZZARD WARNING (srsly we live in Michigan. IT SNOWS. oi) and was happy to discover that the deli counter will cheerfully put lunch meat in a reusable container! HUZZAH! Less plastic FTW! I also am excited to see how the cotton mesh produce bags I ordered work out. I consciously chose to get a half gallon of lemonade from Oberweiss cuz it is in a glass reusable jug, just like our beloved Calders milk. IRONY the check out person USED TWO PLASTIC BAGS, ummmmm NO. THANK YOU! I realize it is "heavy" but I can handle it. sheesh

I would take this time to promote the bee's wrap reusable food wraps that I love. While I am at it-- I am also looking at more glass storage containers. I need a couple of rectangle ones for dredging.  My resident hipsters pointed out how the glass leftover storage bowls are so much better than the gladware plastic. I promise not to buy anymore.  #steeldrinkingstraws

I really am trying to be chipper...

1. The puppy is doing great.  A little "mouthy" but labs are bred to have pretty sensitive mouths so I sure it is normal. Her coat is coming in. The vet was "super pleased" that felt good.
2. Lisa came for a lovely visit, we saw a production by a troupe called Post Modern Jukebox at the Fillmore. Played Scrabble. Baked. We ate like goddesses, had some cocktails and resolved to up out annual visits to six months or less... Thinking DC cherry festival and Folger Library this spring.

I can't help but feel a little guilty for putting so much pressure on her to be my BFF... the realization that I need her to carry so much emotional weight is kinda like comparing the nine potted tropical plants that flank the track at the gym, with the responsibility of making me feel like I did in Hawaii. My expectations are pretty high. She claims she is up for it. Thank the goddess. That being said, I need to articulate that today would have been Victoria's b-day except she died, and it is right on the heels of yesterday being the 5th year I didn't buy Gretchen a birthday present because I can't get flowers delivered to the blues club in heaven.
