IRL

Well... it rained. Nobody wants to use power tools in the rain-- so Officer James was legit postponed. Matt is graduating on Friday and that trumps worker guys. However, electric needs to be this Thursday.  BLECK. I so wanted this DONE by this week. The site supervisor is confident that hood install will be less than one day. Then it is just dry wall, painting and back splash.

In other news, My Book Club needs to undergo a makeover. I am unsure how I feel about this.

I have a really crappy cold. It isn't helping.

slowly wrapping up

The last drawer pull arrived in the mail on Saturday. The day of the Labyrinth Party. (which was a roaring success and a diff post entirely) I attached the drawer pull last night. I am done with LaFata. whew.

Today Officer James is coming to fill in the corner of the counter. Izzy is taking the train back to the D for her Junior Portfolio Review (at 7:45 pm), this afternoon the guys from Big George's come out to SITE VISIT (what a concept!) the ceiling and be sure the ductless exhaust hood will fit. I need to make a post to sell the new in box FAIL HOOD.

Tuesday Matty comes into Michigan and will be graduating from the MSU Biochemistry Dept with his PhD on Friday.

Someday it will calm enough to write again.

Monday Week 6

I hoped for two or three weeks. HAHAHAHAHAHAH

Today I can call my kitchen fully habitable. It is at 90% fully renovated. The ovens were re-installed Friday night by Big Georges.

We are no longer hog tied by LaFata. They couldn't get anyone "free" to finish the trim and hardware until Saturday. WHEN MATT AND IZZY WERE BOTH HOME. #Izzy' Birthday.   grrrrrrr 4:30 pm on Saturday Joe left (#rainy sawdust) That was frustrating but it is done (except for the broken screw in one drawer pull. Let's see how long THAT takes).

The appropriately sized exhaust hood will be delivered in a 7-10 days and Big Georges has a site check supervisor scheduled and they will be installing that. Anybody wanna buy some unopened DUCTED exhaust bits? Or a big blue dog house.  I will need to rant about that later I am sure.

The backsplash is being designed by Motawi and is expected end of July.

I can put my glassware back.

Week Five

There is still a bulleted list of final touches (DRAWER PULLS AND CABINET HARDWARE) that LaFata has not completed. They have been paid. They delivered a stellar product with which I am quite pleased. HOWEVER, I am very disappointed in their lack of communication and interdepartmental clusterfuckery. The designer knows she effed up. They return calls as slowly as possible. Scheduling has a lot of excuses. They are not gonna get a happy yelp review.

There is one more thing for the electrician. We are on his fill in list.  Vedder Electric gets a great review.

Weds Week Four

Betcha can't find the seam! Strong work from Diamond Granite. Tomorrow the plumber comes! Then we will have the dishwasher and the ice maker back, the SINK will have WATER! and best of all? Gasline to cooktop! HUZZAH! Also, James finally gets to install the peninsula!

April 8-Monday of Week Four

SO tantalizingly close! But we have hit a plateau. Have known for several days (I really do not know what day it is...) that Weds of this week was the day the countertops are due.  It is super frustrating because although stuff continued (electricity and flooring) and is techinically on task-- I still have an oven in my living room.  And we can't connect heavy things like kitchen sinks or dishwashers cuz they are dependent on the counter tops. It is a domino chain of patience. This week we are on Matt the electrician's open job order, cuz he has to get another big project rolling for Vedder and will squeak us in when he can escape that job for a couple of hours here or there. He still has five undermounts and the sink lamp fixture to hook up.  We are a big job and he is doing great. WORST CASE scenario, we get him back on the 26th.

Mike and Don of Ypsilanti Restoration are amazing. Attention to detail, laid back and still professional. They enjoy working together. A pleasure really. The floor is complete and I LOVE IT. Pete and Izzy want to make a secret little game tile from one of the fam's favorite games, Settlers of Catan. A two for one port. Because the floor is complete we could have gotten the hardware, toe kicks and the rest of the foofoo (egg and dart) trim installed last week, but the only person capable of reading a calendar at LaFata was sick for two days so she is gonna call me tomorrow.  My patience is running thin with their division of labor and departmental lack of communication. BREATHE.  It will all get done. The cherry on the top of this sundae is the tile backsplash. Pete and I are rabid motawi tile fans and loved their work at the Wallace St house. Thursday we went out and got Leslie started with a color palette and our taste preferences and she is gonna get started on a project that won't be started till the end of summer. TOTALLY WORTH IT.

That is a lot of tile...

It is believed that grout will be drying this afternoon. (4/7/19)
